Quick & Easy Bread Sticks/Biscuits

I don't know about you,
but there are many days when I have a hectic afternoon and we are either out of bread, or there wasn't time to bake bread and I want something yummy to serve for dinner with a bowl of soup, salad, or, a pasta dish.

These 2 recipes have saved many a day for me and they are
SO easy,
delicious and
throw together VERY quickly!!

Besides the meals listed above, they are also both great served
with a smoothie and the biscuits are wonderful served for breakfast...my favorite thing to do with the biscuits is to enjoy them with butter and a drizzle of honey, or a spoonful of jam.. mouth watering DELICIOUS!

(here for great tip for breadsticks)
We have even made up the biscuits and put gravy over them, or made a mock KFC dinner.
(here and here)

However, they are served,
they are always yummy, yummy, yummy!

BREAD STICKS
Yummy Bread Sticks
1 ½ cups warm water
1 tsp salt
1 Tbsp. powdered milk
1 Tbsp yeast
1 Tbsp sugar
4 cups flour

Mix together and knead for 5 minutes in your Kitchen Aid (or by hand)
Roll onto greased sheet.
Cut into bread stick strips.
Let rise 30 minutes.
Spread generously with melted butter and garlic powder, parsley flakes and grated cheese.
Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes.
Yummy!!
These are another perfect compliment
to homemade soups and chili.

BUTTERMILK BISCUITS
Hot Buttermilk Biscuits
(really easy and really good)
2 cups flour
½ teaspoon salt
3 teaspoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon baking soda
3 Tablespoons butter
2/3 cup buttermilk

Sift together dry ingredients.
Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal.
Add buttermilk all at once.
Stir lightly with fork.
Knead gently on lightly floured board.
Roll ½ inch thick.
Cut with 3 inch round cutter.
Place on baking dish with biscuits touching.
Bake at 450 degrees for 12-15 or until lightly browned.

TIDBIT...if for some reason you don't have any buttermilk you can always add 1 Tbsp of vinegar or lemon juice to each cup of milk and let it stand for 5 minutes to "Sour" and you will have buttermilk to add to your recipes.

Enjoy adding some yummy-ness to dinner-time, lunch-time, breakfast-time or ANYTIME for your family!

Yummy! Those bread sticks look like something from a restaurant! I love both the recipes. I'm saving them now! Your soup in the picture looks good too!

Quick question...what kind of mixer do you have? Have you made the investment for a kitchen aid? I would love to have one but they are so darn expensive. However, I find it so hard to make bread with a regular mixer. Seems like you have to have one. I guess you could mix it the old fashion way but I usually don't have much time. The breadsticks looks so easy and delicious but just curious about the mixer. Maybe, I will have to look for one on Craigslist. I used to have a bread machine and it would do the mixing but I got rid of it a while back because it wasn't a very good one and I rarely used it.

I made the breadsticks today. I had to hand knead them (honing in on my primitive skills...haha). They were great. Probably should of used a little more butter but they were actually really easy. Great recipe!

I made the biscuits last week. They were good too but I messed up a little. I made the 1 C of buttermilk (with lemon) and then just dumped it in..even though the recipe called for less. I couldnt figure out why my dough was so sticky. Silly me!

Whit just pulled these breadsticks out if the oven. So yummy! They smell divine! They are going to be great with dinner tonight! I'm so glad you have such easy recipes with very few steps. I am a one hand woman at the moment and my family has had to step up and do pretty much all of the cooking this past week. It has been great to have a few simpler things that they can easily do and not take so much time. Thanks again for sharing your love of simple yummy inexpensive reciepes.
