Pie Crust!

This is kind-of a re-post...
I have lots of people ask me for my pie crust recipe and so I thought I would make it easier to locate and so I am just posting just the pie crust recipe only.

We are pie lovers and I enjoy so much making pie crust!
This makes the perfect crust and always turns out flaky and delicious!

Apple Pie, Lemon Meringue Pie,
Coconut Cream Pie, Huckleberry Apple Pie,
Cherry Pie, Three Berry Pie, Peach Pie,
Strawberry Pie, AND Zucchini Quiche,

wouldn't taste as yummy without this delicious crust!

(here for pie recipes)

Pie Crust
½ cup REAL butter

2/3 cup shortening

1 Tablespoon sugar

½ teaspoon baking powder

1-teaspoon salt

1 Tablespoon dry milk
3 cups flour

½ cup cold water

butter and shortening together.

half the flour and all of the dry ingredients.

the rest of flour and water. (Makes 2 double crusts)

Roll out
very thin with plenty of flour.

put in pie plates and prick with fork all over.

Bake 400 degrees
for 8 minutes, or until lightly browned.

The Key to a flaky pie crust
is to NOT try to make the dough look perfect and don't overwork it or it will make it stiff.

(OR you can use ALL butter instead of butter and shortening---if you choose this option it is 20 Tbsp. of butter or 2-1/2 sticks)

I am DEAD.
You KNEW this post would kill me right?
With the pie pictures LOOKING this fabulous.. the taste would surely kill me. :)

FYI: When I was little.. pie crust was my favorite food on the planet. My Mom would bake a pie ( or pies ) and I would sneak in and break off the beautiful edges just to feast on it.. and all it's glory.
My Mom would try to be mad... but it made her happy that I loved it sooo much as well....

He has my very first piecrust in his pocket right now.....he made a wallet out of it.

I have always used just shortening in my pie crusts and they're lacking in flavor and personality! I'm going to add butter from now on if the crust turns out as beautifully as yours!

I just wanted to let you know that I used your Pie crust and cream pie recipes for Thanksgiving this year. Can I say "YUM!".. Everything tasted wonderful and turned out great! My Mom always makes the pies - I never do and have been intimidated by them for years. But with your recipe in hand and instruction - I DID IT!! Woo hoo! It's an exciting thing to know that it's not as hard as you imagine. Thanks for all your tips and great recipes and for making my Thanksgiving truly homemade. Yum! :-D
I made, cherry, apple, pumpkin, lemon, banana and coconut pies. 2 batches of pie crusts on my own that actually turned out!
