Orange & Cinnamon Rolls!

I just LOVE weekends...
spending all day with my hubby and kids. It doesn't matter what we're doing, as long as we're together I am Happy!!

This past weekend was kind of a lazy Saturday. I had to work until 12:00 and so by the time I got home, it was really hard to launch into getting motivated to finally put Christmas away.
Since we always have an abundance of oranges to enjoy in January, I usually venture out and make "Orange Rolls". So, with Ethan's help that is how we spent our Saturday afternoon in between washing and folding laundry and making Whatchagot soup.

I usually make the whole batch Orange Rolls, but I wasn't sure if Ethan would like them as much as we would and so I divided the dough in half and made Cinnamon rolls AND Orange rolls.

Ethan just whispered in my ear last night that his favorite were the Orange Rolls and asked me if I would make them again.
Make dough and let rise until double
two times.

Steps for making cinnamon rolls

Orange Rolls

2 Tbsp. SAF yeast
1 Tbsp. sugar
½ cup warm water

Mix together and let stand while getting other ingredients ready.
1 cup scalded milk
1/3 cup butter
1/3 cup sugar
2 tsp salt
2 eggs, well beaten
4 ½ to 5 heaping cups flour

Add butter and sugar to hot milk. Cool and add eggs, salt, and yeast mixture.
Add flour, knead well. Dough will be sticky.
Put in large bowl with a small amount of oil and coat well.
Let rise, punch down and let rise again.

Roll dough out like a jelly roll and spread with a mixture of:
6 Tbsp. softened butter
1 Tbsp. orange juice
1/3 cup sugar
grated rind of 1 orange

Cut and put on cookie sheet or in muffin tins. Let rise until double and bake for 10-15 minutes in 400 degree oven.

Yummy!

Especially yummy frosted with Cream Cheese Frosting
(4oz) 1/2 package cream cheese--- ¼ cup REAL butter--- 1 teaspoon vanilla--- 2 cups powdered sugar

For Cinnamon Rolls:
Use same roll recipe except spread rolled out dough with 6 TBSP softened butter, and cinnamon and brown sugar (use as much cinnamon and brown sugar as you like). You can also add raisins if you like. Let rise until double and bake for 10-15 minutes in 400 degree oven. When slightly cooled spread with Cream Cheese frosting

Another great hit for families of all ages!
Sweet Rolls to enjoy
with some hot cocoa, spiced cider, or herbal tea on a gloomy winter's day...it doesn't get any better than that!!

I have never seen the orange rolls version this way. We have them every year for Thanksgiving and Christmas.. but they are in the cresent shape.

I love them.. and hope to one day make them for my family.. It won't be soon.. I'm not that adventurous.. but it will happen to keep the tradition going... :)

Oh those do look heavenly! I have been looking for a yummy orange roll recipe and I think I've found it. I have a cinnamon roll recipe that you make up the night before, let them raise all night, and then cook them in the morning. I think I will try your orange roll goo on my dough so we can enjoy orange rolls for breakfast. Oh that sounds so good! thanks again for sharing.
