Ice cold milk & an Oreo Cookie!

I miss the good old days,
when there were such "catchy" tunes for commercials.

I remember singing the"catchy tune" shown below the photo ALL the time when I was a teenager.
In fact, once you get singing it, you can't stop and it will drive you crazy, because you can't get the tune out of your head!

"Oh, Oh, Oh, ice cold milk
and an Oreo Cookie
They forever go together,
What a classic combination
When a dark, delicious cookie
meets an icy cold sensation
Like the one and only creamy,
crunchy, chocolate, O-R-E-O"

Jade has been begging me
to make Homemade O-R-E-O cookies.
Someone brought them for a treat in one of his classes last year and he just loved them.
However, every recipe I have found just uses a boxed cake mix and I wanted to make something from scratch that used food storage ingredients!

I found several recipes and did some tweaking to them to cut down the sugar so they weren't so sweet and WOW, the final creations were such a hit with my hubby and kids and the Scouts of my hubby's Scout Troop.
Yummy, delicious and oh SO easy to make!!

Dark Chocolate Wafers with
Cream Cheese filling
(AKA...O-R-E-O's)

10 Tbsp. butter (1 cube plus 2 Tbsp)
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1-1/4 cup unbleached flour

Mix together butter, sugar and vanilla until creamy.
Add in egg, salt, baking powder, baking soda and cocoa powder and mix until thoroughly mixed.
Next add in flour until blended well.

Form into "tiny balls" and bake on a greased cookie sheet...
375 degrees for 9-10 minutes.
Remove from cookie sheet and completely cool on a rack

Cream Cheese filling
1/4 cup butter
4 oz. cream cheese (1/2 a package)
1 to 2 tsp. vanilla
2 cups powdered sugar
Cream together for one minute.

After cookies are cooled spread cream cheese filling on the bottom side of one of the wafers and then place another wafer similar in size on top to make the Sandwich cookies. Squish together and store in an airtight container.

Enjoy...
the one and only creamy,

crunchy, chocolate, O-R-E-O
(homemade that is)

I can't keep up with you my friend!

I've scoured your recipes all day yesterday and today. I've been beefing up my long term storage and was looking through your site tonight to check out the pinto beans. That's what we're having tomorrow. I love beans!

Anywayz, you are totally inspiring me to do better using my food storage and making sure Howie has a good lunch to take. So he doesn't head to some nasty place to grab some fast food nastiness.

NOW I need to make these cookies. Wait....I'm gonna make the oatmeal cookies...no wait, the molasses ones.

See what I mean???? I can't keep up!
HUGS for your week!

It's a small small world....

Now I cannot get that oreo cookie song out of my brain! I totally remember that commercial - So I had to get you back - ha ha!!

In all seriousness - I have never even thought about making my own oreo cookies. I am definately going to try these - they look like cookies of total awesomeness!!

Maybe I'll just stop by your house and raid your cookie jar this weekend (wink)!!

You rock as usual :)

Yum! I've wanted to try Oreos too - I even have a recipe with the cake mix. But I LOVE this homemade version. I haven't tried making any yet... but I am going to make these. I think they will be a great treat for the Cross Country spaghetti feed this week. We are in charge of desserts. I'm trying to get a little creative and not send the same cookie every week. I'm sure these will be a hit! Thanks as always for your wonderful recipes!

I am going to be the only rebel here.. and say that these are my VERY favorite cookies.. and I LOVE them made from the cake mix.
I have about 50 cake mix boxes in my food storage.. and I can't beat when they are on sale for so cheap! You can make a lot of things from Cake mixes.. and I think they taste great.
To each is there own... :)

I LOVE that you are always dedicated and determined to make everything you can from scratch! You go girl! -- You seriously should have a TV Show.. ha-ha..

Thanks for all of your sweet comments.. I always love to read your comments because they are so heartfelt. :)

My favorite Jingles.. Bologna.. Rice A Roni.. and Bandaids.
I still remember every lyric. :)

I need you to e-mail me.. :)

Ann Marie, I thought you were "an old fashioned girl"... LOL ;-)

My two bits: The cake mix ones are REALLY GOOD.

The from "scratch" ones are INCREDIBLY EXCELLENT!

Once you get through all of those cake mixes and are feeling adventurous, give them a try!
